Back in the mid 1990’s, this is how I moved my Macintosh Quadra 950 around the world. This Mac had 64 MB of RAM and the NuBus slots were usually stuffed full of ProTools cards (I think I took these photos for insurance purposes. The system was never that clean or empty).

The computer case was custom built by Kris Kraft Cases. It featured a drawer that would allow access to the computer’s side door as well as 16 rack spaces for audio gear (8 front and 8 back). The monitor case was made by A&S Cases and was a complete piece of crap.

My First Mac

In 1989, I began working for a retail music store in Toronto called Saved By Technology. As the name implies, this was not your typical guitar strings and drum sticks kind of music store. In fact, there were no guitars and no drums to be found. There were however a shit-load of cool computers and MIDI instruments. As well as being an authorized Roland and Korg reseller, SBT was Canada’s first combination music store and Apple Computer dealership.

Needless to say, it wasn’t long before I got my first Macintosh. It was a Mac Plus with 512k of RAM (quickly upgraded to 2.5 MB for a mere $1000). I also got an ‘Apple Crate’ brand 60 MB SCSI hard disk. Even at dealer cost, I paid in excess of $5000 for my first Mac system.

And now I have a phone that is 100 times more powerful and one tenth the price.
